Welcome
“All things are poison and nothing is without poison; only the dose makes a thing not a poison.”
Paracelsus (1493 – 1541), credited as the founder of toxicology, was briefly city physician in the Swiss city of Basel which has been chosen as the venue for the 37th International Congress of the EAPCCT from 16 to 19 May 2017. Set on the Rhine and bordering France and Germany, Basel is a dynamic economic centre, home to the oldest university in Switzerland, a research stronghold with world-leading life science companies, and a pocket-size cosmopolitan city. Basel’s Old Town is one of the most beautiful and intact of its kind in Europe with narrow alleyways and hidden squares. Simultaneously, the city welcomes modernity with open arms and as home of Herzog & de Meuron, Basel has created a stir in the world of architecture. The city lives and breathes culture, and promotes and celebrates the arts and boasts internationally known museums, such as the Basel Art Museum, the museum devoted to the iron sculptor Jean Tinguely, the Fondation Beyeler and the Museum of Cultures.
The congress will take place in the Congress Center Basel which is located in the heart of the City of Basel and has plenty of hotel accommodation available within walking distance. All other hotels in Basel can be reached within a maximum of 20 minutes by public transport –hotels in Basel issue a free Mobility-Ticket, which gives you unlimited use of all public transport in and around the city for the duration of your stay, including to and from Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport (EuroAirport) just outside the city which has an easy connection to downtown Basel by public transport. There are also frequent trains between Basel SBB station and Zurich and direct services to and from Zurich Airport. Basel can be reached by train in just under 3 hours from Frankfurt airport in Germany, a major international transport hub with direct flights to and from many European and overseas destinations. Paris is just 3 hours away by high-speed train TGV.
As in previous years, the academic aspects of the congress are being organised by the EAPCCT Board and Scientific and Meetings Committee, who have prepared the following themes for 2017.
